Inspired by a not completely original idea that we saw somewhere else, we bought ‘1001 Albums: You Must Hear Before You Die’ and are working through it with the help of Spotify, a random number generator to choose the page and a coin toss if 2 albums on a page.

Rules: Must listen to at least 3 tracks before skipping and album is only skipped if we BOTH agree. We’ll catalogue what we listen to, what we think of it (Rubbish/Indifferent/Good/Excellent) and whether we’d listen to it again.

Simple.

745 - Jeff Buckley - Grace

Year:  1994
Verdict:  Good
Comments:  Listened to entire album.  Jeff Buckley was obviously a very talented man.  We found the album had flashes of brilliance but you had to wade through a lot of melancholic self-indulgence to find them.  Probably wouldn't listen to the whole album again, but would listen to selected tracks.  If you were in the right kind of mood it would probably be brilliant.  Jamie's favourite thing about this album is that it reminds him of guitar shop days with Seth.

688 - K.D. Lang - Ingénue

Year:  1992
Verdict:  Indifferent
Comments:  Skipped after 3 tracks.  Yawnsville.  We had a constant craving to skip after 2 tracks, but rules are rules.

163 - Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River

Year:  1969
Verdict:  Good
Comments:  Listened to entire album.  Great, especially the classic 'Bad Moon Rising' - surely one of the best songs ever.  Will forever remind us of Steve B.

822 - Manu Chao - Clandestino

Did not have / could not find.

370 - Fela Kuti and The Afrika '70 - Zombie

Year:  1976
Verdict:  Good
Comments:  Listened to entire album.  Wouldn't listen again, but was enjoyable nonetheless.

880 - Ute Lemper - Punishing Kiss

Did not have / could not find.

235 - Can - Tago Mago

Year:  1971
Verdict:  Good
Comments:  Listened to entire album.  Would definitely listen again.  Sounds surprisingly contemporary for 1971.  Was trippy, epic and very strange.  Nice bit of German avant-garde psychedelia.

441 - Fleetwood Mac - Tusk

Year:  1979
Verdict:  Good
Comments:  Listened to entire double album.  Would definitely listen again.  Particularly liked 'Sara', 'Walk a Thin Line' and 'Tusk'.

743 - Suede - Dog Man Star

Year:  1994
Verdict:  Rubbish
Comments:  Skipped after 3 songs.  Shit.  Utter shit.

630 - Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814

Year:  1989
Verdict:  Indifferent
Comments:  Skipped after 3 tracks.  Ok but boring.  Title track, "Rhythm Nation" was good.  Jamie remembers the video from school and it contained good dancing.
